Alliance MBS' funded research projects

In September 2015 we became the Alliance Manchester Business School following a landmark donation from Lord Alliance of Manchester and fellow Trustees of the Alliance Family Foundation.

As well as being invested in our new building to enhance the learning experience for all students, funding is also being made available to drive our research agenda forward.

In particular we are investing in a series of innovative new research projects through the Alliance Manchester Business School Strategic Investment Fund. The first round of the Fund in 2015 saw investments made in 12 separate research projects. Funding was then made available for a further eight projects during the second round of the Fund in 2016.

These 20 projects in total cover a broad and wide-ranging selection of research areas, but all the while taking advantage of the School’s renowned expertise in these academic fields and building upon an established research base.

Many of the projects also touch upon live and pressing economic, social and technological issues such as: the devolution of government services to the English regions and the ‘Northern Powerhouse’ initiative; the organisational and structural challenges faced by the NHS; the fast-changing world of work; and the challenges of the ‘big data’ age we live in. Many are very global in outlook too, such as our work around ‘Rising Power’ economies and their impact on global supply chains.

Meanwhile, over the past year academics at Alliance Manchester Business School have also continued to win research grants from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) across a wide spectrum of projects, spanning the full range of research disciplines.
